Dean Register is a passionate and relevant communicator of biblical truth and a man deeply in love with Jesus Christ. He is a shepherd-leader, a calm spiritual warrior, a "Barnabas" to other pastors around the nation, and a man who exemplifies Christ-likeness privately with his family and publicly with others.
Dr. Register is a fun-loving practical joker, but behind his occasional pranks there is the evidence of intense academic training. He holds 4 degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Valdosta State University; a Master of Divinity (M.Div) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; a Master of Theology (Th.M) from Reformed Theological Seminary with an emphasis in New Testament Interpretation, and a Doctor of Theology (Th.D) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with an emphasis in homiletics and history.
When asked what verse of scripture tugs at his heart daily he says Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives within me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
Dean has served and grown churches in Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi. He has been a featured speaker at evangelism and leadership conferences throughout the nation and is a frequent contributor to Christian Journals and magazines. He wrote Romans: God's Amazing Grace published by LifeWay in 2007. He has also been quoted in Reader's Digest for his statement on "prayer".
Dr. Register and his wife Sharon have been married for over three decades. They love to invest their energy in young families by helping them grow into spiritual maturity and go the distance in their marriage journey. Sharon and Dean are absolutely crazy about their grandchildren, too!
Sharon holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in finance from William Carey University and is a highly acclaimed Realtor in the Hattiesburg areas. She also holds the designation of Certified Residential Specialists (CRS) and uses her enthusiasm and expertise to touch countless lives throughout the Pine Belt. When asked how she balances her time between ministry and work Sharon says "God wants me to represent Him in every aspect of my life so that my work becomes a pleasing sacrifice of ministry to Him and service to others."
Perhaps the quality we love best about our Senior Pastor is that he is always approachable. He never gives you the impression that he is anything other than an ordinary man following in the steps of His Savior. He always carves out time to let you know that he cares, that you matter, and best of all that Jesus makes all the difference in everyday life!
Calvin Miller says "Wes' rugged exterior belies his tender interior. He is a rare blend of candor and compassion."
During the formation of Crosspoint, a strong established church on the Mississippi Coast wanted Wes to become their pastor. It seemed like a golden opportunity in a congregation that was ripe for his gifted leadership. Wes told the heart-broken search team "I must obey God and decline. I believe God wants me to be a part of planting a new church that is desperately needed in Hattiesburg." With rugged faith and a "throw-caution-to the-wind" trust in God's providence.
Wes joined the Crosspoint family and began immediately making a giant impact among young couples throughout the Pine Belt. Wes was a three year letterman on the famed Oak Grove Baseball team and was a MS All-State third-baseman.
Later he played three years for the William Carey University Crusaders baseball team. At William Carey Wes earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He has also earned a Master of Divinity (M.DIV) degree from New Orleans Theological Baptist Seminary. He has engaged in additional study at Oxford University in Oxford, England. In 2001 Wes married Nicole Walker of Clinton. Nicole is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology. Wes often says "Nicole is my soul-mate and my trophy of grace. She is proof that a baseball jock can marry someone out of his league."
Nicole holds numerous awards at USM including being selected as Miss University of Southern Mississippi. Nicole sings with the worship team and teaches little ones in Sunday school. She and Wes together invest countless hours of their time ministering to college students and married couples.
Wes is the master teacher for our adults. He writes all of our small-group curriculum and our devotionals. In addition he spearheads our men's ministry and equips other group leaders to accomplish their task for the glory of God. In his meager leisure time, he loves to play golf and lift weights. Best of all, he loves to know the Word of God and share God's love with others. And wow, the guy can preach, too!
Robyn is a unique and rare gift of God to the Crosspoint fellowship. She is usually the first voice you will hear when you call the office. People who have never met her have said, "I could just sense in her voice and presence that she is gracious, authentic, and competent". She is truly the personification of poise, loyalty, and tenacity. Everybody knows that if you need to get something done Robyn can usually make it happen. For the past 15 years she has kept our pastor on task and organized, but she brought plenty of experience to the table when she began. Prior to moving to Hattiesburg she kept the Mayor of Brookhaven on task and organized for 8 years. Robyn and her husband Terry have been married for 26 years; have three children and four adorable grandchildren. Terry is the Operations Manager for Balfour Beatty Rail Contractors and is a rock-solid leader in our men's ministry!
Dr. Register summarizes what we all believe: "Robyn doesn't punch a clock. She ministers for Jesus 24-7! Her work at Crosspoint advances the gospel not only to every member of our fellowship but throughout our community and state. It's a sacred honor to serve with her. She is God's sunshine upon our entire fellowship."
Barbara Swilley is the lovely lady adept at computer software, business practice and financial management. Barbara has served as a church business manager for 26 years, 18 of these years with Dr. Register. Previously she served as the administrative assistant to Executive Vice President of the Bank of Hattiesburg and as the office manager of Life of Georgia Insurance Company. Barbara is a member of the National Association of Human Resource Managers and serves as secretary for the Board of Directors of the Hattiesburg Racquet Club. Barbara and Robyn are best friends and together pop the whip around the office.
If you look up the words "pleasant" and "proficient" in the dictionary you might see Barbara's picture beside the words. She is always willing to go "the extra mile" to help Crosspoint grow. Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Don. They have two adult children and six energetic grandchildren. Barbara is a crucial player on the Crosspoint staff!
